Now that 2018 has hit the month of December, basketball season is upon us. Intramural basketball season that is.

The Intramural season at Canfield High School started off with eight senior captains. For a few weeks in November, kids would go into the athletic office and sign up for this years season.

Once everyone signed up, all the captains got together and had the 2018 intramural draft.

The draft started off well, but by the end of the draft, it was realized that there were too many kids playing to only have eight teams.

Team Karas captain, Greg Karas came up with a great idea. He texted one of his best friends and asked him if he would become a captain of a ninth team. That sprung the creation of Team Donadee.

When asked about his thoughts of becoming a new captain, Team Donadee captain, Jake Donadee said, “It was a blessing to be asked to be a captain. Many of the top picks were gone once Greg texted me and asked, so my strategy is to improve the team through the trade market”.

Donadee kept true to that promise as he now has traded almost his entire original team.

His original team of: Vince Giordano, Glenn Griswold, Troy Tyson, Jad Jadallah, Tyler Lantz, Noah Zoldan, Hasan Kusuni, Valentino Corbisello, Anthony Dapolito, Gio Saadey, and Ben Pugh

Has now shrunk to: Jake Petro, Glenn Griswold, Paris Bumgarner, Brennan Klingensmith, Jad Jadallah, and Brandon Hudock.

The activity from Team Donadee has caused the trade market to go insane in the past week.

Each team has made at least one trade, and most have made multiple. Starters have been traded as well with bench players.

The first day of the season caused even more shifting throughout the league.

The captains realized that nine players to a team is too many subs. They all came together in a decision to create another expansion team.

The tenth and final team in the league, Team Saadey, was created. Their captain was able to select one player from each team that wasn’t a starter to fill out his roster.

Now the league has ten teams with eight to a team. This year has the record for the most players and teams in intramural history. With so many teams, no team had pulled away yet as that top team.

Two are tied for first place but neither of those teams are undefeated any longer. With a record of 4-1 Team Dawson and Team Maass are the two front runners.

Only five games have been played thus far, so there is plenty of time for any team to capture first place.

Game nights are every Monday and Thursday from 7-9:00 at Canfield Village Middle School, If you wanna catch up on this season’s intramural action.
