Flannel Friday is a new clothing craze going on at Canfield High School, with kids of all grades participating. The flannel movement took off at the beginning of the year, and the group has expanded from just a handful of guys to close to twenty, and the number is growing.

“It’s a movement,” said Max Lee, a veteran of the group. “We’ll see more and more people every Friday. We will give them a wave and they’ll wave back. It’s pretty funny.”

The group doesn’t only do Flannel Friday: they also do Sweater Weather Wednesday and are working on another day currently.

“We are always trying to think of a new day,” sid co-leader Jad Saleh. “It’s pretty hard, though, because you need alliteration with it.”

“My favorite thing about it is the picture that we take at the end of the day,” said veteran member Hunter Hale. “It always looks fresh.”

Many people do not realize the effect that Flannel Friday has had. Many of the members did not even know each other, but through this group they have made new friends. Most members are boys, but there is one girl, Taylor Watkins.

“Being the only girl is tough because the boys want to be dominant and if I do one thing they don’t like, they threaten to kick me out of the group,” said Watkins.

Teachers are even joining the movement, including the always fashionable Mr. Ruark.

“It’s a fun thing the guys are doing,” said Ruark. “Files told me to wear one and I did. I skipped the picture though, which wasn’t appreciated.”

Taking a trend and turning it into a club gives everyone a chance to meet new friends and have fun. Hopefully the club will continue to grow and attract more attention.
