The Cardinal

Jake Petro
Jake Petro is a senior in high school. His favorite hobbies are hanging out with friends, football, basketball, and golf. His favorite sport is football. Whether it’s watching his favorite teams, or playing, he really enjoys the sport. He started playing when he was in 4th grade. Although it’s his favorite sport to play, he took 2 years off from playing it. After suffering a gruesome injury in his Freshman football season, Jake decided to stop playing.

“It was a very tough decision. I loved football, but after my injury I was afraid of getting injured again. I was also extremely out of shape and did not have the motivation at the time to get better,” said Petro.

Once his junior year started, Jake started to regret his decision to quit.

Petro said, “Seeing my friends all playing last year was hard for me. It was then that I knew I needed to come back.”

Once the season came around, Jake had to adapt to football practices that were a lot different than his Freshman year.

Petro said, “It was tough at first. The practices are a lot more fast-paced. I also had to relearn the techniques of being a wide receiver. After a week or so though, I started to get the hang of it.”

Outside of football, Jake has always viewed school as more important. He has a 4.3 GPA and wants to do big things after high school.

Petro said, “After high school I would really like to study either aerospace or mechanical engineering at Ohio State or Kent State.”

Although Jake is going to miss his high school days, he is excited for what comes next.

“I’ll definitely miss high school, but I’m excited for college,” Petro concluded.
