Gioia Mavar
Gioia Mavar is a 17 year old senior at Canfield High School.

When asked about her life, she mentioned that her family does a lot of activities together. Her parents, Elena and John, have four children; Giovanni (20), Mario (19), Gioia (17), and Maximus (11). Her mother was born and raised in Montenegro. When she was 17, she came to America as an exchange student on a scholarship, and ended up staying here for college. Gioia’s father graduated from Canfield High School. Her mother decided to stay in America and marry her father. 

Gioia’s entire mother’s side of the family lives in Montenegro. Mavar said, “We like to travel a lot as a family.”

Every summer, the Mavar family travels to Europe to see their family. They even own houses in Europe. One year, Gioia made the trip by herself. She stayed in Montenegro with her extended family for two months. Gioia has also been to Italy. The family also takes ski trips to Snowshoe Mountain together. 

Her whole family is involved in different activities that they enjoy. Gioia’s brothers are involved in dirt bike racing. They even have a dirt bike track in their backyard. Gioia is also involved in extracurricular activities. She has been cheering for CHS since freshman year. She is currently on the Varsity football squad.

She mentioned, “I love cheer, especially cheering for football.”

Along with high school cheer, Mavar coaches for the Canfield Little Cardinals. This will be her second year coaching. As a family, the Mavars also like to care for animals. They used to have a chicken coop in their backyard with multiple chickens and chicks.

To conclude, Gioia and her family travel and do many activities together that bring them closer as a family.
