The Cardinal

Elizabeth Kennedy
While walking down the hallways, one’s eyes may be drawn to that of sophomore Elizabeth Kennedy; a fashionable girl who goes out of her way to always sport the newest and trendiest looks. But to those who know her personally, she’s a dedicated athlete.

Kennedy has a passion for softball.

When asked about why she loves her sport, she excitedly explained, “It’s so much fun. It keeps my mind off of things, relieves my stress, keeps me really active- you meet a lot of new people. It's definitely a passion of mine. I play it every day, almost.”

Kennedy’s love for the activity goes far beyond just a hobby of hers. She states that she dedicates hours upon hours of practice and condition to her sport, and hopes for a scholarship towards it to a college somewhere in North Carolina.

“I give 100% of my effort. All the time.”

Though she recognizes that softball requires lots of work put into it, when asked if she would recommend it to others, she immediately replied with an overwhelming “yes!”

“Anybody could pick it up if you put the time into learning how to play,” she reassured, “I picked it up in the sixth grade and varsity is already asking me to play for them. You definitely can get into it if you put in the time. You can’t just sit on the couch all day not doing anything and expect to be good.”

Kennedy is a star player for Canfield’s own team, Austintown, and Mineral Ridge.

Despite her many accolades in softball, Kennedy is also known for being an avid fan of popstar Taylor Swift. With hits like “I Knew You Were Trouble”, “Blank Space”, and “Shake it Off”, it was hard for her not to fall in love with her idol’s glitzy looks and songs, her favorite of which being “Long Live”.

“I love her personality,” she gushed, “her music, her lyrics, everything she does for her fans, the things she does for kids who are sick.. She’s the only artist I listen to!”

Kennedy has been to three of her concerts and anticipates going to more in the future.
