Chloe Cruz. When she was 10 years old, Chloe Cruz discovered a passion for softball.

“People say that I started very late,” said Chloe.

Starting slow in rec-ball for only one season she realized she wanted to play at a higher level. So she started playing competitively in travel ball.

The biggest part of my life is softball,” said Cruz.

Today she's 16 and still playing travel ball for the Ohio Outlaws. Last winter she got recruited by Kent State University.

Since she was only a Sophomore at the time she had to contact Kent State’s coaches herself, because of NCAA rules stating that Division 1 coaches can not contact players until September 1 of their Junior year.

“When Kent started showing interest in me I was at a show-case camp. I was so excited because I was performing really well that day,” said Chloe.

As the coaches showed interest in her later on she called the head coach and set up an unofficial visit. During the visit she got to meet the team and stay the night in the dorms with a couple freshmen.

The following day she sat down with the coaches and discussed what she wanted to do in the near future with her softball career.

“The coaches asked me if I wanted to visit any other colleges and I didn’t understand what he really meant and said ‘yes’ my dad corrected me and said to other schools? And I was like ‘oh no not at all’,” said Chloe.

It seems that Chloe has a promising future at Kent State University playing a game she loves even though she started late in the game.
