Zane Muckleroy, Senior Contributor

Zane Muckleroy is a senior at Canfield High School who competes in football, basketball and has a job at Cocca’s pizza in Canfield. Zane, who plays sports year round whether that’s for the school or AAU basketball in the spring/summer, is constantly bombarded with school work, practices and shifts at work.

Being a student-athlete is a difficult task to anyone, it takes time management skills and lots of discipline for any person to have that much going on in their life, let alone a teenager. Add in having a job, and you have an extremely busy schedule.

About how he handles all of his responsibilities and being stretched so thin, Muckleroy said, “It’s very tiring, sometimes I have to shower at the school and go straight to work after practice, it honestly sucks.”

Although having all those responsibilities as a 17 year old high school student is daunting, it also teaches you lessons, and sets a foundation for the future, whether that’s being a collegiate athlete or your next job.

Zane said, “It really does help me prepare for the next steps in my life, I want to play basketball in college so the time management aspect is a very important skill to have.”

He added, “Although having a job is a tough task, I believe it will benefit me in the long run."

On the other hand, there are many downfalls Zane has to deal with. Including working until close, coming home to homework and having to wake up and do it again.

Zane explained, “It’s a grind sometimes, it makes you want to quit, but you gotta keep going, besides I don’t think my Mom would let me quit.”

All in all, Zane appreciates the lessons and traits being a student athlete with a job has taught him, from time management skills, to simply just advancing his work ethic, it has benefited him immensely in the end.
