Nicolena "Lena" Horvat, a senior at Canfield High School, describes herself as being a very kind, caring person who likes to put others first.

Lena lives with her sister Ellie, Mom Sheri, Dad Gregg, and has an older brother living in Columbus, Jack. Lena's family also has four dogs, named Oliver, Gracie, Daisy, and a new dog Mia. Lena's family is passionate about rescuing dogs and providing them with loving homes.

Lena began gymnastics at seven, and stayed at the Ohio Gymnastics Institute until this past year, switching over to coaching. She wanted to do something different with gymnastics, so coaching is something she enjoys very much now. Lena also plays soccer and is in the band. Lena played soccer for a few years when she was young, but left the sport soon after. She joined soccer again as a junior in high school, which is not very common. She wanted to try something new and step out of her comfort zone.

Lena said, "Joining soccer at first was very hard and discouraging at times, but with the support from my teammates I was able to get through it."

After high school, Lena sees herself pursuing Marine Biology at Bowling Green University.

Lena gave background to her inspiration for this career: "On vacation in Florida my family and I visited a rescue aquarium. I talked with an intern for marine biology about the career and this sprouted my interest for it."

She is very passionate about saving sea life and doing what she can for wildlife.
