Junior Jake Cox is a hardworking and determined student athlete at Canfield High School. Jake has been playing on the high school football team for the past three years and has been playing football since the 7th grade.

He plays on both the offense and defense end. While playing on offense Jake is a wide receiver and on defense is a corner.

Jake is number six, not only because he likes the number, but because one of his role models is also number six.

¨I have always like the number six and Devonta Smith wears number six. He was a receiver at Alabama who got drafted this year. I look up to his playing style. He isn't the tallest, he is only 6´0 yet he won the Heisman trophy,¨ said Cox.

Cox started to play football because his dad would always watch it. Football was a main way that Jake and his dad would bond. He was not too sure if he would love the sport at first, but now has a growing passion for the game. Jake now finds football to be a second nature to him.

He believes that being a part of the football team is like having a second family. He says that being with them almost everyday forms a huge bond between the guys. Jake believes that his teammates will always have his back no matter the circumstance.

Jake said, ¨After a win the environment is crazy. It is probably the best environment ever, especially after a home game. We go to the locker room and everyone is excited. Then you see Coach Pav hitting some dance moves and it is the best thing ever.¨

The ultimate goal is to win a state championship. We got close last year and we will probably see Chardon again this year in our playoff run. This year we hope to get back at them and beat them.

¨My goal after high school is to go to college and play football. The main goal is that my brother Dan and I can attend the same college, so that we can finally play together. Our dream would be to play for Pitt,¨ said Cox.

Jake hopes to not only have a successful high school athletic career, but to continue his athletic career at the college level. He plans to continue playing football for a long time.
