When Sydney Karlock was a freshman, she made an extensive decision. After six years of dance she decided to hang up her tap shoes and walk away. For three years she knew she was missing something. Her life wasn’t the same, she craved to do something besides school.

Last December Karlock received a gift certificate for PūrYoga in Boardman. Although, she didn’t use it until the middle of July. After her first session she realized this was the thing to fill her void.

“When I used to dance, I use to be really flexible. Ever since I quit, I lost all by flexibility, through this I was able to gain it back,” she said

Though Karlock is new to yoga, she’s extremely excited to continue her journey with the different types of classes offered.

“I took a class called power yoga basics. I really liked it, and I’ve been going for the past two months. They have other classes, one’s called Yin, it’s more for flexibility. They also have power yoga, they start you slow and build you up,” said Karlock

Within two months she has already felt the physical and mental changes.

“It’s all about your breathe. I think yoga has helped me mentally. It helps me clear my head, when I have something I’m thinking about a lot. Physically it’s helped my knee issues I have from dance. It has also helped me with my tight hips,” Karlock said.

She believes everyone should try it with all of the benefits it provides.

Karlock said, “I would recommend this to someone else. I think it really helps out mentally and physically. It’s always a good way to end your day, especially if it’s stressful.”

Since Karlock found her new passion, she knows this will be in her life for awhile. She plans on continuing and exploring new and exciting classes.
