The Cardinal

Paul Breinz
For Paul Breinz football is a priority now and always has been. As a senior captain of the football team and already nominated as a Big 22 player, Paul has some high expectations for himself along with his team for the 2017 season.

Breinz is currently on his 12th year of football and when asked if he has ever had any thoughts of quitting he stated, “Ha never, I love it with a deep passion.”

The idea of not playing football seems absurd to Breinz and, it is just a thought that has never occurred to him.

Even through all the hours of practice, days of conditioning, 100 degree turf and early mornings he has loved every bit.

Though he may love every aspect of the sport Breinz still has his preferences, when asked what side of the ball he would rather play on he said, “Oh offense for sure, nothing beats scoring a touchdown.”

As the starting running back for the Cardinals, Brienz holds a lot of the pressure while on offense, while he loves running the ball he believes they should pass more in certain situations .

During the games however Brienz stands by any plays that are called, understanding the coaches further knowledge of the sport.

With the way the Cardinals first game against Louisville went Breinz believes the play calling was just fine, passing when they had to and running the rest. After the first win against the Leopards in 5 years, and along with the experience and skill the Cardinals possess Breinz hopes for a good year.

When talking about chances at playoffs, he simply stated, “ Pretty good, but I guess we’ll just see what happens.”
