Matthew Peckman

When anybody meets Junior Matthew “Matt” Peckman, he is quick and eager to dive into his love for swimming. Swimming has been the biggest part of his life with most of his social relationships stemming from the friends he made through his involvement with different swim teams.

Matt explained that, “my passion for swim is (because of) the friendships I made through doing it and the excitement of achieving my goals.”

Peckman is a three-year member of The Canfield Swim and Dive Team. It is on this team where he achieved his greatest accomplishment. He was extremely enthusiastic to say that it was, “the twenty-one second split in the freestyle-relay.”

Always motivated, Peckman hopes to even outdo his own best in the freestyle-relay, which he admits will be challenging, yet manageable if he puts in the time and effort.

He explains that, “I hope this will lead me to state this year since I haven’t gone yet.”

While his life is currently defined by swimming, Matt has the future on his mind. Reluctantly admitting that he may not swim in college, Matt wants to study mathematics at YSU. He hoped that this would lead him a career in Accounting or Financing. Peckman was eager to explain his passion for mathematics. This passion stemmed from some of the positive role models of Canfield High School, specifically Mr. Wensel, who helped spark his love for mathematics.

All in all, Matt believes with the right amount of motivation and effort, there is nothing he cannot achieve.
