The Cardinal

Jake Johnson
Canfield High School has lots to offer, but for incoming freshman Jake Johnson, there’s only one extra curricular he chooses to focus on.

For eight years Johnson has decided to dedicated all of his spare time to soccer.

“I play defense, and I hope to be captain my senior year” he states.

He began his passion at the age of six, and has been playing ever since. Johnson explains that he doesn’t even remember how he got into playing the sport. “I started playing when I was younger and have been playing ever since. I guess my mom and dad signed me up for it and I like it,” he explained. “I just love how unpredictable the sport can be.”

When talking about his teammates, for the most part all Johnson could do was smile.

“I’ve been playing with the same people for almost five years now, and I love playing the sport with them. Being a team means a lot/ It’s a bond I have with them that I don’t have with anyone else.”

When asked what his goals were for the future of his soccer career he says, “I hope to still be starting as a senior, and I hope to be captain.”

Johnson loves this sport so much that his dream is to become a professional soccer player after high school. Being a freshman though, he has not looked into schools that offer a soccer scholarship, but he calmly said that "...being a freshman, I've still got time to figure things out."
