Halloween is a very popular holiday, especially in the Canfield community. From trick-or-treating, to the Scaregrounds, to the loaded hallways in Canfield High school, it is an exciting era that many look forward to. One of our favorite parts of Halloween is definitely the movies that resemble our favorite parts of this holiday. To name a few, Halloweentown, Twitches, and Hocus Pocus.
Our first ranked movie would be Halloweentown. There are three movies in this series and it is about a girl Named Marnie who follows her grandma onto a magical bus after overhearing that she is a witch. She is almost 13 and is hoping to find her full potential as a witch when she ends up in Halloweentown which is the only place that supernatural beings can live a normal life. She finds out that her family is involved in a fight against the evil who are planning to take over the world. We love this movie mainly because of its twisted plot and the memories that come about when watching it when we were younger. In our households, this movie is a staple of Halloween. Even though we are 18 years old and have been watching it for years, this movie is timeless. In our opinion, it is a 10/10. It is our highest recommendation.
Our next recommendation is Twitches which is a movie about twin sisters who are reunited on their 21st birthday that discover their ability to use their magical powers. Their mother runs a kingdom and needs their help to save it from the forces of darkness. Even though it is a bit more girly, it still has the elements of a great Halloween movie. It is another movie that we watch every single year because it has a perfect mix of magic, horror, and all things Halloween. We would rate twitches an 8.9/10. This movie is a great resource for getting into the spirit of Halloween and we highly recommend it.
Our last recommendation is the movie Hocus Pocus. After moving to Salem, Mass., teenager Max Dennison explores an abandoned house with his sister Dani and their new friend, Allison. After dismissing a story Allison tells as superstitious, Max accidentally frees a coven of evil witches who used to live in the house. Now, with the help of a magical cat, the kids must steal the witches’ book of spells to stop them from becoming immortal. We learned while writing this that this movie is based on the Salem witch trials. With this movie already being a favorite, it makes it even more interesting because it was based on true occurrences. We like it because witches and ghosts are symbolic of Halloween and the plot incorporates both of these elements into their characters. We would rate this movie an 8/10. It is high on our watch list.
To conclude, Halloweentown, Twitches, and Hocus pocus are some of our favorite Halloween movies to bring us into the spirit of the season. They all have different yet appealing plots that many would be interested in. We hope this was helpful and that you enjoy these movies as much as we do. Happy Halloween!
